Education Programs
At Imagination Station, we believe that hands-on learning plays an important role in a child’s education. Our programs are designed to promote student investigation and critical thinking. Led by a museum educator, programs include age-appropriate activities and encourage student participation. All museum programs meet learning standards outlined in North Carolina’s Standard Course of Study. Downloadable Program Guide
Museum Visit
Groups of more than 10 that want to visit the museum and not participate in a program are required to make a reservation in advance. Groups will self-guide through the museum. Visitors to the museum should dress for climbing and running.
Adults, students, & seniors: $6 per person
Children 2 years and under: Free
Museum Visit and a Program
Explore ISSHM before or after your group participates in a scheduled program. Programs must be scheduled at least two weeks prior to the arrival date. Once a program is booked, groups must pay one week before the arrival date. Groups can choose different programs to customize their trip. General admission to the museum is included in the program price. Discounts apply for groups booking more than one program. Program at Your Location (SHOW)
No school bus required! Field trips are not the only way to experience the Imagination Station. Let us bring science and history programs to your school, civic group, or family function. We will bring all materials needed to conduct exciting workshops, assembly programs, or discovery classes at your facility.
For locations greater than 75 miles from ISSHM, there must be a minimum purchase of $350 in programs.
Pre-K Programming
Our preschool programs are designed to introduce children to various topics and ideas through hands-on learning. Programs are 30 – 45 minutes long.

Our staff takes great care to consider the North Carolina’s Standard Course of Study for science. Programs include age-appropriate activities and encourage student participation. All programs meet learning standards outlined in North Carolina’s Standard Course of Study. Programs range from 45-60 minutes long.

Science on a Sphere Discovery
Science On a Sphere® (SOS) is a six-foot diameter globe that illustrates earth system science using data from the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). SOS displays global storms, tsunami wave tracks, real-time weather. It can also display planets, moons, and the Sun. If you would like specific focus on topics from the programs listed below, customized programs are available with at least three days’ notice. Student worksheets are handed out with each program.
Each program is approximately 30 minutes.

STEM: Engineering Wind Turbines & Green Energy
Wind Turbines and Green Energy - Students learn the meaning and importance of clean and green energy. We discuss how wind energy is harnessed, its advantages and disadvantages. Working in small groups, students design and build wind turbines. They then measure wind energy outputs using volt meters to choose the best design. Serves up to 30.
Recommended for grades: 4th-11th
