2015 Redwood Garden Party
Everyone is invited to join us for the 3rd annual Redwood Garden Party!
This year, Henry and Betty Lou Walston will host us as we celebrate the California redwood trees that dot our Wilson landscape. Enjoy light refreshments and a glass of wine in the Walston's garden underneath the branches of their thriving redwood.
Why do the redwoods of Wilson matter so much? The California coastal redwood tree is native to the Pacific Northwest, not the coastal plains of North Carolina. In 1942 W. T. Lamm, a Wilson resident and cotton magnate, decided to plant one in his back yard. The tree flourished and Lamm began sharing cuttings with family and friends, many of which are also thriving here.
After a feature article in Our State Magazine, a few people decided to celebrate the redwoods planted here more than half a century ago. They're also carrying on the tradition of sharing cuttings. Guests will each receive a cutting from W. T. Lamm's original redwood tree to plant and nurture in their own backyard. The cuttings are in limited supply and will be a first come, first serve basis.
Become a sponsor for the event and be guaranteed a cutting along with recognition on the sponsor board. To become a sponsor fill out the sponsor form at the bottom of this page.
