Go back in time as we explore some of the most fascinating and feared creatures to ever roam the earth! Come face to face with animatronic dinosaurs that move and roar making you feel as if you had stepped back into the Mesozoic era. This exhibit is sure to turn you into a dinosaur fanatic!
Every Saturday guests will be able to search for fossils in our fossil pit. Our fossils come from Aurora, NC and contain a variety of marine fossils such as shark teeth, shells, sting ray teeth, and more!
Jan 30 – Exhibit Opening, 4-8 PM
Join Imagination Station as we celebrate the opening of our newest exhibit “Prehistoric”! Guests can dig through fossil matrix and bring home what they find. We will also host Research Curator Vince Schneider from the NC Museum of Natural Sciences. Mr. Schneider will speak at 5 PM about excavating duckbilled dinosaurs in Montana. Doors will open at 4 PM. Admission is free!
February 27- Looking at Microfossils Lab,
11 AM and 2 PM
Take a closer look at micro fossils from eastern North Carolina. While easy to over look due to their small size, microfossils reveal significant information to paleontologists such as climate conditions and unknown species. Participants can take home their finds!
March 4 – Fabulous Friday: Dinosaurs! 3-6 PM
Explore the world of Dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures. Aurora Fossil Museum's Director Cynthia Crain is our guest speaker and will share her research on the Cretaceous period in North Carolina at 4 PM. Guests can dig for fossils and participate in various dinosaur-themed activities.
*Fabulous Fridays are every first Friday from February to May. Admission to the museum is free.
March 9 – Super Science Day Camp:
In the Time of Dinosaurs, 1-4:30 PM
Travel back in time as we explore the world of dinosaurs! Students will learn about these pre-historic beasts and what made them one of the most successful species in the history of the Earth.
*We offer Super Science Day Camps during Wilson County School District's Early Release Days. The camps are open to anyone from ages 6 to 12 years old. Cost: $25 per non-member, $20 per member.
March 12 – ISSHM Fossil Fest
Come visit Imagination Station time we explore prehistoric life by what’s left behind, fossils. Members of the North Carolina Fossil Club will display their collections for you to see. Our guest speaker will be George Powell, an amateur paleontologist with over 50 years of fossil hunting experience. Mr. Powell will be speaking at 10 AM. Guests will be able to dig in our fossil pit and participate in various fossil-themed activities.
April 16 – Paleo Talks
Learn from the professionals as we host informative lectures from professional paleontologists. Speakers and times will be determined soon.
May 14 (Rain date May 21) – Fossil Hunting Expedition at the Greens Mill Run
Join Imagination Station’s own Justin White as he leads you on a fossil expedition just up the road in Greenville, NC. Justin has over 20 years of fossil hunting experience and loves to educate others on the subject. Guests will hunt in an urban creek that yields a wide variety of fossils such as shark teeth, whale bones, and even prehistoric horse teeth!
